As we told you last week, Ford has a new Fusion in the works. This week, Ford unveiled the sporty looking coupe at the Detroit Auto Show, and it was everything industry experts had anticipated.
Drawing on the “One Ford” model, which has Ford bringing the same vehicles (though sometimes renamed) to every market, rather than making different models for European, Asian, South American, African, and North American drivers, the Fusion is slick. The Wall Street Journal said it drew on design elements of the Aston Martin, but most people will look at it and think BMW or Mercedes. This is not your average, boring, make-sure-it’s-really-yours-bef0re-putting-the-key-in-because-they-all-look-the-same family sedan. This is the make-everyone-at-the-PTA-jealous-of-the-European-styling-of-your-American-vehicle family sedan.
Even better than its looks are the Fusion’s technical specs. Ford plans to make both an electric-gasoline hybrid model (the Fusion Hybrid) and an all-electric model (the Fusion Energi), and all three versions are impressively fuel-efficient. Even the all-gasoline model has an EPA mpg of 23city/33hwy, which is great for a five-passenger mid-sized sedan.

Portland Auto Dealer: Ford Helps Launch First Hydraulic Hybrid School Bus
Ford is taking its commitment to “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” to a whole new realm.
Ford has partnered with Georgia Tech to create the first ever hydraulic hybrid school bus, running only on recycled biofuel. Converting existing school buses into The Green Eco School Bus will potentially lower greenhouse emissions and reduce transportation costs for schools. The first school district to be granted with the innovative new bus is the APS school district in Atlanta, Georgia.
For the last 60 years, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services has worked with community partners to advance driving safety, education, American heritage and community life. Funded by Ford Motor Company, the organization hopes that the bus project will lead to cleaner, more efficient school buses for many school districts. Other significant projects include Driving Skills For Life, a safe teen driving program and The Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies, which uses a rigorous academic curriculum to provide high school students with 21st-century learning experiences to enhance real-world skills.

Oregon Ford Dealer: Recycled Blue Jeans Are Under The Seats Of The 2012 Ford Focus
Recycled clothing- the equivalent of two pairs of blue jeans- will be incorporated into the 2012 Ford Focus, shares an interesting KGW News story. In a new spin on reduce, reuse and recycle, Ford Motor company aims to incorporate cotton from recycled clothing for carpet backing and sound-absorption materials to create a quieter cabin.
Ford is continually looking for greener alternatives. Recycled content is a way to divert waste from landfills and reduce the impact of mining virgin material. – Carrie Majeske, product sustainability manager.
By reusing old clothing items such as blue jeans, these items avoid filling the landfill and save on the water, fertilizer and land needed to grow virgin cotton. While customers appreciate the alternative resources included in the Focus, this move reflects the car maker’s company-wide focus on better for our planet, cost-effective materials.

Ford Dealer Portland: Ford Focus Electric Emphasizes Comfort and Convenience
The Ford Story wrote a great new article about the new 2011 Ford Focus electric car. The new cars start with a push of a button and will bring the convenience of refueling home with a 120V plug-in cord. Ford Motors is researching ways to make the experience natural and comfortable with the supplier partner Yazaki.
Working together, they used internal ergonomic studies to create items the convenience cord. They drew inspiration from everyday objects like a hockey puck and curling iron. The handle was especially designed for ease of use. While owners are expected to charge their vehicles at home, remote charging stations will use a standard 120V convenience cord.
The Focus electric car will be released in late 2011 and is one of 5 electric vehicles to be produced at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant.
