Who could forget the super hot Ford GT, the mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 550-hp supercar that the company built from 2005 to 2006? Well, there may be another incarnation, or so rumored and reported by Automobile Magazine.

When asked about the possibility of a successor to the GT at an intimate media dinner, Ford president and CEO Alan Mulally chose to neither confirm nor deny. Instead, after a thoughtful pause by head of global product development Derrick Kuzak, Mulally jokingly pleaded ignorance.

All joking aside, the skillful skirting of the issue was enough to give journalists hope for a GT supercar future, which will surely spreads to fans of the Ford vehicle as well.

The 2011 Ford Edge with EcoBoost brings increased fuel efficiency to a people-moving family SUV, without the added cost premium of a hybrid system. The Edge is one of the first two Fords in the U.S. with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost, the next size down from the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. The latter of the two being used in the Flex, Taurus SHO, and F-150.

As explained by Motor Trend, using a combination of turbocharging and specially engineered direct injection, EcoBoost provides a base 10% increase in fuel efficiency and lowered emissions over a comparably sized conventional engined vehicle. While increased fuel efficiency is certain, exact numbers have yet to be set in stone with some figures showing up to a 20% increase over the 3.5-liter V-6. In addition, Ford has addressed problems previously experienced with turbochargers in order to promote daily use.

Ford announced an opportunity to test drive the all-new 2012 Ford Focus next February in Madrid, Spain. To participate in the Ford Focus Global Test Drive, drivers and fans are invited to submit a video essay explaining their interest in this exciting behind-the-scenes driving event.  Selections will be based on criteria like content creativity, social networking vibrancy and the number of votes received by these special entrants on the Global Drive Ford Facebook tab.

The National Institute for Aerospace Technology, with more than 10 driving surfaces available, will serve as the perfect home base for this special event.  Fans and their guests allowed behind the wheel will have the unique opportunity for a sneak-peek at the new Ford Focus, enjoy a broad range of testing exercises and share their experiences through social media.  Drivers will also select a special charity in the category of hunger, education and environmental sustainability to win donations of up to $10,000.

Ford has created the first real-time interactive road rally starring the new Ford Focus. Ford has teamed up with the creators of  The Amazing Race to create Focus Rally: America.

We learned a lot from Fiesta Movement, and by teaming up with the talented co-creators of The Amazing Race and Hulu, we saw a tremendous opportunity to generate excitement and awareness for the 2012 Ford Focus in a unique way – Matt VanDyke, Ford Director of U.S. Marketing.

The 2012 Ford Focus will be featured prominently throughout the program. Players will use the Focus’ new technology like the Ford SYNC, MyFord Touch™ and the Navigation System to help them complete the challenges.

Debutante excitement continues for the 2012 Ford Focus. Insideline.com reports the car will enjoy an extended roll-out with a five-week cross country rally and world promotion that chooses participants through Facebook.

Starting on the Ford Focus Facebook page, the headlines read “a test-drive like no other.” An application lets fans become part of the selection pool for test-drives.  Ford will pick 100 drivers from around the world and fly them to a secret destination with opportunities for a 2 day test drive. Ford will also make donations of $10,000 each to charities in driver’s names.

The application process will begin later this month.  Requirements include uploading a video clip to the Focus’ Facebook page. Each applicant must explain why they should be chosen and why the charity of their choice is worthy for this honor.
